History & Ancient Story (Chandrabhaga)

Chandrabhaga — The Ancient Name of Chenab

In ancient tradition, the river known today as Chenab was called Chandrabhaga. Elders in the Chenab valley have preserved this name through oral history.

Oral Tradition of Puldoda

Our elders say: “This is Chandrabhaga; Ganga’s punya is present here.” In Sanatan belief, Maa Ganga’s spiritual current is not limited to one geography—she is remembered to be present wherever dharma is remembered and rites are performed with purity.

Why This Matters Today
  • Identity: Chandrabhaga is a civilizational memory of the Chenab region.
  • Respect: Rituals at the ghat are done with dignity, silence and cleanliness.
  • Heritage: The ghat is a living heritage site for the community.

Important: The above is presented as local tradition & belief, meant for heritage awareness and responsible faith tourism.
